Microelectronics Careers and Their Impact on American Society

This lesson introduces students to careers in the microelectronics industry and their impact on American society. Through a collaborative research activity, students explore various career categories within microelectronics, including Circuit Design, Modeling and Simulation, Circuit Testing, Fabrication, and Packaging and Assembly. Working in small groups, students investigate job roles, salary ranges, and educational pathways associated with their assigned category. They then create visual summaries on large Post-Its and participate in a jigsaw activity to share their findings with peers. The lesson connects microelectronics to real-world applications, emphasizing the industry’s role in technology, supply chains, and economic development. Students engage in critical thinking and discussion about how microelectronics shape society and future career opportunities.
