micro:bit Creators

This lesson is designed to supplement the Game-On Unit—but can be implemented on its own. Students will learn about and role play two careers in the microelectronic industry. They will also learn about the importance of communication in STEM fields.

  • Core Content: English Language Development

  • Grade Levels: 5-6

  • Time Required: three 40-minute class periods

  • ME Career Connection: This lesson asks students to read about the careers of hardware engineers and software designers. The reading describes career related tasks in creating the micro:bit with a focus on communication skills. A virtual role-play as a hardware engineer designing a micro:bit and a software designer writing the code will help students understand the careers that are part of creating a micro:bit.
